A Constitutional Amendment:
Protecting Louisianans From Unfair Taxation
In 2016, a substantial threat confronted Louisiana's economic growth. An aggressive attorney began advising local tax assessors that they could and should begin assessing property taxes on projects while they were under construction. This had the potential to impact every construction project in the state - from hunting camps to multi-billion dollar LNG facilities. It threatened to derail the industrial construction and expansion that was benefitting Louisiana.
Jason French and Dawn Cole led the charge to introduce a constitutional amendment to prohibit the practice. Working with a skilled team of lobbyists, they helped build a robust coalition of support and successfully lobby the legislature. On October 14th, 2017, Constitutional Amendment #1 was officially adapted after receiving 66% support from Louisiana voters.
